Some days, it feels like life finally gives you a break.
Your inbox isn’t screaming. Your people are good. Your spirit feels settled. You even catch yourself smiling — safe, steady, almost at peace. And then… boom. Life swings hard.
Imagine sitting down and getting a phone call that changes the trajectory of a well-thought-out day, or getting that bill you knew about but didn’t expect until a couple of months, and what about the grief you thought you’d buried suddenly resurfacing in the pit of your stomach, or better yet, sits on your chest so close to your heart.
It’s life telling you, hey, I don’t owe you anything, girlfriend, least of all smooth sailing. So one moment you feel “I’ve got this” and the next, you’re on your knees whispering, “Lord, what just happened?”
That’s the unpredictable path of becoming. And Sis, I see you nodding — you’re not the only one.
“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:8
The whiplash of womanhood is real, but we are going to normalize it. Today you can feel grounded and tomorrow, completely unglued. But guess what, despite the challenges that life brings, you are still whole. Still strong and still healing. Because growth is not linear, it doesn’t move in a straight line. It happens in the curveballs, the chaos, the unexpected breakdowns that somehow lead to beautiful breakthroughs, allowing us to grow stronger and wiser. We build resilience and push through no matter what.
So how do you stay steady when life keeps shaking things up?
Here are 5 soul-deep ways to ground yourself:
1. Return to the Now
When your mind races into fear or regret, ask: What’s true right now?
- You’re breathing.
- You’ve survived 100% of your hardest days.
- God hasn’t left.
“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
2. Feel It — Then Shift
Don’t fake fine. Cry. Write. Pray messy prayers. Be honest.
But don’t stay there forever. When it’s time, rise.
“Though she falls, she will not be overwhelmed, for the Lord is holding her hand.” — Psalm 37:24
3. Create Grounding Rituals
Little daily practices keep you steady:
- 5 minutes of morning gratitude
- Journaling before bed
- A verse on your mirror (“I will not be shaken.” — Psalm 62:6)
When life feels too big, shrink it down to sacred small steps.
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” — Isaiah 26:3
4. Lean Into Your Circle
You don’t need everyone, just your safe few:
The ones who let you cry, remind you who you are, and whisper, “You’ve been here before. You’ll get through again.”
And if you don’t have that circle yet — sis, that’s why we’re here.
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up.” — Ecclesiastes 4:9–10
5. Redefine Progress
Progress isn’t always big wins.
Some days it’s sending the proposal.
Other days, it’s brushing your teeth, answering one email, or just choosing not to quit.
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” — Zechariah 4:10
Celebrate it all, because every step is part of becoming. Some days you will soar, other days you will stumble — yet both carry wisdom, both carry grace. In every rise and every fall, you are still growing, still chosen, and still powerful. Even when the ground shakes beneath you, remember: You were made for this!
