SPRINGDALE, Ark. — A hairstylist gave 5NEWS a firsthand account of when law enforcement stormed the salon she worked at and arrested Andrew McGann, the suspect in the double homicide at Devil’s Den State Park on July 26.
Adriana Ruiz is an employee at Lupita’s Beauty Salon and Barber Shop in Springdale. She shared that after 4 p.m. on July 30 a man had walked in for a haircut, and something seemed off almost immediately.
“When I saw him, he looked pretty normal, but something did feel off about him,” Adriana said. “He looked pretty scary. He didn’t look like he was okay. He was very timid, he was always with his head down, long hair covering his face.”
Adriana said while difficult to describe, his eyes looked sunken, or even “soulless,” and he refused to sign in at the salon.
According to the stylist, McGann didn’t really know what he wanted to do with his hair but wanted to hide his face, nothing cut from the top.
Just minutes into the haircut, law enforcement showed up.
“I was about five minutes into the haircut when a man pulled up and was asking about whose car that was outside. And that’s when he would tell him, you know, ‘I believe this is your car.’ And he didn’t really— he just stood quiet. I guess he felt kind of scared.”
The car in question was a 2022 Kia Stinger, which a preliminary report and Arkansas State Police said was reported to leave Devil’s Den shortly after the killings.
Before long, the place was swarming with police and McGann was arrested. His car parked out front was taken as evidence.
Looking back on the experience Adriana said she’s surprised and shocked.
“Me and my sisters were talking days before, like, ‘hey, I wonder where this guy could be.’ They hadn’t caught him yet, and I saw him here, and I just had chills. I had chills running down because he looked really sunken. He didn’t look like any other person could look like,” Adriana said.
Adriana shared her condolences for the Brink family, saying that the two daughters that were hiking that day with their parents have been on her mind.
“I couldn’t sleep last night thinking about them, and they’ll always be in my heart… those little girls.”
