Alphabet’s Google Inc. is going to reintroduce at least one round of in-person interviews for prospect candidates amid the growing menace of AI. Per reports, CEO Sundar Pichai, stated in a town hall earlier this year that,
Given we all work hybrid, I think it’s worth thinking about some fraction of the interviews being in person.”
He further stated, “I think it’ll help both the candidates understand Google’s culture and I think it’s good for both sides.”
In the same meeting, Google’s Vice President of Recruiting Brian Ong stated
We definitely have more work to do to integrate how AI is now more prevalent in the interview process.”
The move comes in the wake of AI being integrated into interview processes either partially or in full by some companies. In July Meta indicated how it will allow candidates to use AI during coding interviews. Big deal? Wait until the prospect cheats with AI. This has been a growing menace in academia too, with students opting to regurgitate ChatGPT-spitten essays and project works.
Meanwhile, the internet erupted in memes and hilarious reactions over the news. One user quipped, “The irony is baffling ! Google, the AI company, has to go back to face-to-face interviews because people are using AI to cheat their hiring process when the authentication method becomes the problem you’re trying to solve.”
Another remarked, “Hire employees face-to-face. Make them work on- AI. Sack them after.”
Yet another user jibed that Google has become a, “Victim of own product.”
