Suspect indicted in fatal shooting near Samuell-Grand Park, police say

Dallas police said the shooting happened at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, May 24 in the 6200 block of East Grand Avenue.

DALLAS — One person was killed in an overnight shooting near Samuell-Grand Park, according to Dallas police. 

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) said officers responded to a shooting call at approximately 3 a.m. Saturday, May 24 in the 6200 block of East Grand Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a victim, later identified by police as 36-year-old Jose Melecio Martinez, shot at the scene. Dallas Fire-Rescue also responded and Martinez died, according to DPD.

Police said they arrested Angie Lopez, 23, and took her to Lew Sterrett Jail on a murder charge. Jail records showed Lopez’s bond was set at $1 million. In July, Lopez was indicted for Murder, according to court records. 

There were no further details available from police. DPD said the investigation was ongoing.
