The incident began as a chase and ended at the intersection of Town Creek Drive and Glen Oaks Boulevard in Dallas, sources say.
DALLAS — A police pursuit that began in Cedar Hill Thursday afternoon ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting in Dallas, authorities confirmed.
According to a news release from the Cedar Hill Police Department, officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 2 p.m. in the 700 block of Highway 67. The driver, believed to be impaired, fled the scene, leading officers on a pursuit that crossed into the City of Dallas, police said.
The chase ended about 16 minutes later near the intersection of Town Creek Drive and Glen Oaks Boulevard. Cedar Hill police said that’s when the man exited the vehicle and ran towards a wooded area, where a Cedar Hill police officer discharged his firearm, striking the man.
Footage from the WFAA chopper captured several police cars, a damaged U-Haul truck, and an unmarked black pickup truck parked in the middle of a grassy area.
Cedar Hill PD said they rendered medical aid and carried the man to a nearby roadway to meet first responders. Despite those efforts, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident, CHPD said.
Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect, who is described as a white male.
The Cedar Hill officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, with oversight from the Dallas County Public Integrity Division, is leading the investigation into the shooting.
