Suspect steals ambulance from Dallas hospital, prompting police chase, officials say

A suspect in a stolen ambulance prompted a police chase on I-45 overnight, police said.

DALLAS — A suspect stole an ambulance overnight from a Dallas hospital, prompting a police chase that ended in a crash, officials said. 

An Acadian Ambulance was stolen overnight Thursday from Medical City Dallas, located at 7777 Forest Lane, Dallas police officers on the scene said. 

The suspect led officers on a chase in the southbound lanes of Interstate 45, officials said. The ambulance later crashed into some brush under the highway near Pace Road south of Ferris, police on the scene said. 

The ambulance crashed about 20 miles south of Downtown Dallas. 

The suspect was airlifted to a Dallas hospital in unknown condition, Ellis County officials said. Police did not immediately identify the suspect.
