Techie Used WhatsApp Chat To Train AI To Like And Comment On Mom’s Instagram Posts: ‘Laziest Son Ever?’

A techie on LinkedIn bragged about how he built a bot to interact with his mother’s posts on Instagram. The post has drawn mixed reactions from the community. The developer, in his post wrote,

I built a Python bot that automatically likes my mom’s Instagram posts and leaves comments using AI trained on our WhatsApp messages.”

He stated that while he had deleted Instagram ages ago, his mother wouldn’t care.

My mom joined Instagram last month. But she kept complaining that I don’t like her posts. See, I don’t use Instagram. I actually hate it. I deleted the app years ago. But she didn’t care about my “philosophical stance”.

So the solution? Technologia!

So I built this tiny bot. It analyzes our WhatsApp message history to learn how I actually talk to her, then uses LLM to generate comments that sound like me.”

He asked,

Not sure if this makes me a genius or the laziest son ever, but it works.”

Several users asked, “Where is the automated way to log in?” The techie stated that he deployed Instagrapi for the same. He remarked,

It’s a wrapper on the top of insta mobile app private apis. it mimics app behaviour. I am saving the session locally as a json as reusing it to avoid multiple login. so far it works, not sure how long its gonna last.”

Meanwhile, reactions poured in on the viral LinkedIn post. One user quipped, “Technology at its peak,” while another wrote, “So you are automating human emotions to give a false sense of observation? Weird in my opinion.” A third user remarked, “Leaving that aside.. good going on the automated bot thing.

Yet another user commented, “This is brilliant. Equal parts wholesome, hilarious, and technically clever.” A fifth user noted, “Turning mom-guilt into an AI-powered automation is next-level problem solving. Definitely one of the most real-world use cases of LLMs I’ve seen lately!

One user praised the techie saying, “Not all heroes wear capes—some write Python scripts to avoid social media guilt.” Another jibed, “I hope your mom is not on LinkedIn.”
