The best hospitals in Texas have been ranked. Here’s where they came in the national list

Here’s a complete breakdown of the best Texas hospitals, both statewide and in Dallas-Fort Worth.

DALLAS — For the ninth straight year, UT Southwestern Medical Center was named the No. 1 hospital in Dallas-Fort Worth and ranks among the nation’s top hospitals for care in 12 specialties – the most of any hospital in Texas, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual Best Hospitals list released Tuesday

UT Southwestern Medical Center ranks second among hospitals in Texas, trailing only Houston Methodist Hospital.

Baylor Scott & White Health also had multiple top-ranked hospitals in Texas. Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas was ranked No. 2 in DFW and No. 3 in Texas, while Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Temple ranked No. 7 in the state. Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center – Fort Worth is the third-best hospital in DFW, according to the ranking, and tied for No. 13 in Texas. 

Of the nine hospitals ranked regionally here in DFW, four of them came from Texas Health Resources. 

To determine the rankings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals’ performance on objective measures, such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care. This is the 36th year of this annual study. The newly released rankings recognize the 504 best hospitals across 49 states and 95 metro areas.

  • 1. Houston Methodist Hospital – Nationally ranked in 10 specialties, High Performing in 22 procedures/conditions
  • 2. UT Southwestern Medical Center – Nationally ranked in 12 specialties, High Performing in 17 procedures/conditions
  • 3. Baylor University Medical Center (Dallas) – Nationally ranked in 5 specialties, High Performing in 5 specialties & 15 procedures/conditions
  • 4. Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center – Nationally ranked in 3 specialties, High Performing in 6 specialties & 19 procedures/conditions
  • 5. Memorial Hermann Greater Heights Hospital – High Performing in 6 specialties & 22 procedures/conditions
  • 6. Memorial Hermann Hospital – Nationally ranked in 3 specialties & 4 children’s specialties, High Performing in 3 specialties & 18 procedures/conditions
  • 7. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center (Temple) – High Performing in 3 specialties & 21 procedures/conditions
  • 8. Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital –High Performing in 8 specialties & 14 procedures/conditions
