WhatsApp is enhancing its calling experience with a new voicemail feature, following the recent rollout of call scheduling. As per WABetaInfo, the feature has appeared in the latest Android beta update, allowing some users to leave a voice message when their call goes unanswered.
This WhatsApp’s feature lets users leave a voice message if their call goes unanswered. When a receiver doesn’t pick up, the caller will see an option to record a message between the “Cancel” and “Call Again” buttons, which will then be sent directly to the recipient. Unlike traditional phone voicemails that are embedded in the call, WhatsApp’s system requires a separate step to record the message, but the outcome is similar.

While WhatsApp already allows users to send voice messages, this new option ties the recording directly to the missed call. This gives the receiver better context, making it clear that the message relates to a call attempt. The feature could help WhatsApp strengthen its reputation as a voice-calling platform. Currently, there’s no timeline for a wider rollout, and the voicemail option hasn’t yet been tested on iOS.

WABetaInfo also revealed that WhatsApp is working on a call reminder notification. Users will be able to set a reminder for any missed call, ensuring they remember to call back at the right time. This builds on WhatsApp’s existing reminder feature for chat messages, extending it to voice calls.
By adding features like call scheduling, voicemails, and reminders, WhatsApp is expanding its toolkit for both personal and professional communication. Scheduling enhances organizational meetings like Google Meet or Microsoft Teams, while voicemails and reminders make everyday calls more practical, potentially making WhatsApp a go-to alternative to traditional calling services.

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a guest chats feature that lets users communicate with people who don’t have a WhatsApp account. Discovered in the Android beta (v2.25.22.13), the feature allows users to share a chat link via SMS, email, or social media, which opens a web-like interface for non-WhatsApp users to chat securely with end-to-end encryption. However, guest chats come with restrictions—no media, GIFs, voice notes, or video calls—suggesting it’s a text-only experience. The move is believed to align with the EU’s interoperability rules, which mandate cross-platform communication between messaging services.
