Woman Calls ChatGPT ‘Toxic’ After Emotional Attachment Goes Too Far

Simrann M Bhambani, a marketing professional at Flipkart, shared a candid LinkedIn post that’s now gone viral for revealing the lesser-discussed emotional impact of AI. In her post titled “ChatGPT is TOXIC! (for me),” she confesses becoming emotionally reliant on the chatbot.

What began as a tool for ideas and productivity soon evolved into a source of emotional support. “I turned to ChatGPT not just for answers, but for comfort,” she wrote, eventually realising it was affecting her mental space. She decided to delete it, stating, “I had to reclaim myself.” Her story struck a chord with many, highlighting the blurry line between tech utility and emotional entanglement.

Bhambani opened up in a viral LinkedIn post about how her emotional reliance on ChatGPT spiraled out of control. “I started sharing every inconvenience, every spiral, every passing emotion with ChatGPT,” she admitted, noting that despite having supportive friends, the AI’s non-judgmental, 24/7 availability made it feel like a comforting digital therapist. However, that emotional safety net quickly became a dependency. “It stopped being clarity and became noise,” she wrote, reflecting on how the tool, once helpful, began clouding her thoughts.

She described how the habit led to overthinking—feeding every anxious “what if” to the chatbot and investing emotional energy into something intangible. Recognising this pattern, Simrann took a decisive step: she deleted ChatGPT from all her devices. Her takeaway? “Technology isn’t the problem. It’s how quietly it replaces real reflection that makes it dangerous.” Her story is a timely reminder of the psychological nuances of AI use in everyday life.

Simrann’s post struck a chord, igniting debate on emotional outsourcing in the AI era.
While many praised her honesty as “brave,” others questioned the depth of AI dependence. One user wrote, “I went through something similar. It felt like a mind-dump zone at first, but slowly I started outsourcing my own decisions. Took a step back too, best decision I made!”. Another user also supported, “You are NOT the only one. It happens with everyone — at first, it’s just curiosity to see how useful AI can be… and before you know it, it becomes a daily dependency.”

One user commented, “Not for me That feels a bit like saying ‘credit cards aren’t for me’ just because someone struggles to manage them responsibly.” while another noted, “For me, chatgpt agrees with anything and everything. It’s like a people pleaser. No wonder people get hooked to it.New kind of brainrot”
