Woman killed in officer-involved shooting after police chase, Lewisville police say

A woman was fatally shot after fleeing from a traffic stop in Lewisville on Thursday morning, police said.

According to the Lewisville Police Department, the incident began just after midnight as a traffic stop for felony warrants on State Highway 121 in Lewisville.

Police said when officers confirmed the felony warrants, the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect, an adult woman, drove through several jurisdictions during the pursuit, police said. At one point, a police vehicle was struck by the suspect’s vehicle, but the officer inside the vehicle was not injured during the collision.

According to police, when the suspect arrived in a shopping center parking lot off I-35 and Round Grove Road, the suspect was unable to continue driving due to damage to her vehicle.

Police said when officers attempted to arrest the suspect, there was an exchange of gunfire by Lewisville police officers.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to a local area hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. No officers were injured during the incident.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the incident. The Lewisville Police Department is also investigating to confirm if the actions of police took place according to department policy.
