Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reportedly distributed noise-canceling headphones to neighbors in Palo Alto’s Crescent Park area to address complaints about ongoing construction at his expanding residential compound, The New York Times reported.
Over the last 14 years, Zuckerberg spent over $110 million buying at least 11 homes on Edgewood Drive and Hamilton Avenue. And during this course, the billionaire has transformed his neighborhood into a non-stop construction zone with surveillance and frequent parties.
Per reports he added 7,000 square feet of underground “basements” that neighbors describe as “bunkers” or a “billionaire’s bat cave.” He had also built a similar 5,000-square-foot underground structure in Hawaii, denying it’s a “doomsday bunker.”
Meanwhile, some of his 11 properties remain vacant despite the region’s acute housing shortage. Others have become guest homes, gardens, a pickleball court, and a pool with a hydrofloor. Zuckerberg also operated a private school for his children, potentially violating zoning laws.
The nearly eight years of continuous construction created street blockages, debris, and constant noise. Zuckerberg’s staff also gave neighbors sparkling wine and Krispy Kreme donuts during loud periods.
Reactions poured in. One netizen jibed, “I would not accept anything electronic from this guy.” Another quipped, “Mind you, all his neighbors are fuck-you rich as well.” Yet another took a dig, stating, “And on the third day, Mark said “let there be noise canceling headphones,’ and it was so.” A fourth user wrote, “I thought we were all going to chill in the Metaverse.” Another commented, “Nothing says ‘sorry for the noise’ like cheap headphones when you’re worth billions. Peak Silicon Valley problem solving.” One user jibed, “He didn’t have to do it. Be grateful for the largesse of your betters, peasant.”
