Nationwide — Trevor Lee, a 14-year-old African American teen from Middleburg, Florida, shot and killed his parents after an argument, then turned himself in at a nearby church, according to local authorities. He now faces two murder charges.
The shooting happened just after midnight on Monday at a home near Silver Point and County Road 220. Clay County deputies arrived and found 44-year-old David Lee and 45-year-old Brandi Smith dead from gunshot wounds, according to 11Alive.
Hours earlier, Trevor had called 911 and told dispatchers he had killed his parents. He was later found waiting for deputies at a local church, where he surrendered without resistance.
Sheriff Michelle Cook said the incident followed a family argument the night before. Investigators believe Trevor used a gun that belonged to his parents and left it at the scene.
There’s no current threat to the community, Cook confirmed. She also asked the public to share any information they might have about the teen or his family.
Authorities are now reviewing Trevor’s school and mental health history as part of their ongoing investigation. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
The sheriff’s office continues to gather details as the case develops.
