Nationwide — Candra Rogers, a 56-year-old African American assistant principal from Corsicana, Texas, who lost her left eye in a student attack last year, is coming back with a new role focused on helping students and families get support beyond school.
Rogers was recently named the Family and Community Engagement Coordinator for Wraparound Services at Corsicana ISD. This program helps students by providing things like school uniforms, supplies, and hygiene products — basic needs that make learning easier.
“We just want to care for our babies,” Rogers told KWTX. “It’s hard to learn if you don’t have everything you need.” The services are based at the Drane Learning Center and are available by appointment.
Families can request assistance by calling the Wraparound Services office or by submitting a Student Assistance Form online. The district says the goal is to make sure every student has access to the resources they need to succeed.
Superintendent Stephanie Howell welcomed Rogers into the role, praising her dedication to students and the community. “Her passion for building strong relationships with families and the community aligns perfectly with our district’s vision. I am confident her leadership and commitment will help us foster even greater collaboration and support for all Corsicana ISD students and families,” Howell said.
Rogers began teaching in Corsicana in the 1990s and returned in 2024 with her husband, Eugene Rogers, who now serves as the district’s Athletic Director and Head Football Coach.
Reflecting on her return, Rogers said it feels like a calling. “God sent us back here. There was work for us to do here, and we’re going to do the work,” she said.
