Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones stirs the pot with comment about two star players…and JJ Watt responds

Jones talked about injuries when discussing Micah Parsons contract negotiations. And he pulled in another start Cowboys’ player, too.

HOUSTON — One of the best things right now about the Houston Texans? They are not the Dallas Cowboys.

Another contract dispute is making headlines for that team up 45 North. This season, it involves star defensive player Micah Parsons. To Parsons’ credit, he has reported to camp in California. But  team owner Jerry Jones stirred the pot a bit when with his comments about Parsons last season…and dragged in the team’s starting quarterback into it, too.

“Just because we signed him doesn’t mean we’re gonna have him,” Jones said at camp Monday. “He was hurt six games last year, seriously. I remember signing a player for the highest-paid position in the league and he got knocked out two-thirds of the year — Dak Prescott. So there’s a lot of things you can think about just as the player does when you’re thinking about committing and guaranteeing money.”

First, a correction. Parsons only missed four games last season, not six. Second, the comment got the attention of former Houston Texans’ great J.J. Watt, who posted video of Jones’ words with a touch of his own sarcasm.

“Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it…,”Watt posted to X.  “Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you.”

Parsons then shared Watt’s post himself.

While the pot is stirred for now, everything will be forgotten when Parsons gets his deal.
