The inmate’s name has not been released yet.

TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — A 61-year-old inmate died Wednesday after suffering a “medical emergency” inside Tarrant County Jail, officials said.

According to a news release from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, medical personnel from John Peter Smith Hospital responded to the report of the 61-year-old inmate having a medical emergency. TCSO said the man was taken to JPS Hospital, where he later died.

The Tarrant County Medical Examiner, TCSO said, will determine the man’s cause of death and provide his identity, though it’s unclear when that information will be released.

The sheriff’s office said that the inmate, who arrived at the jail on July 29, had been arrested by the White Settlement Police Department for criminal trespass.

“All in-custody deaths are investigated and reviewed by Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office jail staff, the TCSO Criminal Investigations Division, the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, an outside law enforcement agency, JPS medical staff, the Texas Attorney General’s Office and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards,” TCSO said in the release.
