The partial human remains, believed to belong to an adult, were found Sunday night entangled in debris within the water, officials say.

GARLAND, Texas — Garland police are investigating after decomposed partial remains of a human body were found Sunday night in a creek, officials say.

Police and fire personnel were called at about 9:45 p.m. to a creek beneath a bridge in the 2600 block of Anita Drive in response to a report of a dead person.

The remains were found entangled in debris within the water, police say. Due to the remains’ condition and heavy rainfall, police say they believe the remains may have been carried downstream from somewhere north of the area.

Police say they were working with the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death and help identify the remains.

The investigation is ongoing.
