Haltom City police kill 1 person in overnight shooting, officials say

Haltom City police said officers were responding to a 911 call for service when they opened fire, killing one person.

HALTOM CITY, Texas — One person died after Haltom City police shot them while responding to a call for service at an apartment complex, officials say. 

Dispatch received a call for service around 12:40 a.m. Thursday from the 5500 block of Buster Drive, the Haltom City Police Department said in a press release. The caller stated, “I need police at the Heritage Apartments,” before the line disconnected, police said. 

Responding officers located the apartment connected to the call, the release states. During the encounter, one officer shot their gun, police said. Police provided immediate medical attention, but the person died, police said. 

Police do not know if the person killed was the initial 911 caller, according to the release. 

The scene is secure and there is no ongoing threat to the public, police said. Investigators are working to determine what led up to the shooting, the release states. 

The Haltom City Police Department takes the use of force very seriously and understands the significant public interest in such incidents,” the release reads. “We are committed to conducting a thorough and transparent investigation and will provide further updates as appropriate.”
