‘I Don’t Have Money’ TCS Techie Forced To Sleep Outside On Footpath? Company Reacts To Unpaid Salary Accusation

A TCS techie went viral for sleeping on footpaths outside the company’s Pune premises. His note remarked that since he wasn’t paid his due, he will be living outside the campus. In his letter, the techie claimed that while the HR initially promised in a meeting to clear his salary, it was not fulfilled.

I have reported back to the TCS Sahyadri Park Pune office on 29th July 2025. I haven’t received my salary, which was confirmed at the 30th July 2025 meeting, stating, “I hope you receive your salary on 31st July 2025.” During the meeting I have informed HR I don’t have money and will be forced to sleep and live outside TCS on the footpath. HR has not responded to that and has kept quiet. Hence, I have been living on footpath since 29th July 2025, in front of TCS – signed”

After the outrage on social media, the company, in its statement to the Hindustan Times (HT), stated that the techie’s payroll was suspended due to “unauthorized absence.” The company remarked,

This is a case of unauthorized absence where the employee has been absent from the office. In accordance with standard procedure, payroll was suspended during this period.”

TCS also claimed that

The employee has now reported back and requested reinstatement. We have provided him accommodation for now and are supporting him in addressing his situation in a fair and constructive manner.”

The news comes in the wake of TCS gearing up to lay off over 12,000 staff to deploy AI at scale. This mass layoff comprises 2% of the global staff of the Indian IT giant.
