I’m A Survivor! Michelle Williams Talks Destiny’s Child Reunion And The “Trauma” That Still Haunts Her From Her Group

Y’all! Michelle Williams may have had fans screaming when she popped up alongside Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland during the ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour stop in Las Vegas, but behind that flawless performance was one very real fear—falling flat on her face. And, if you think she’s exaggerating, sis says she’s been carrying that fear for over 20 years.

Michelle Williams Talks Destiny’s Child Reunion

In a candid solo episode of her podcast ‘Checking In w/ Record Breakers,’ Michelle opened up about the group’s world-stopping, on-stage reunion. And, despite intense rehearsals and some behind-the-scenes maneuvering, Michelle couldn’t fully shake the nerves when she reunited with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland during the ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour stop on July 26. The surprise moment—which swapped out a ballroom dance segment at Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium—had the BeyHive in a full chokehold as the trio struck their signature ‘Charlie’s Angels’ pose before launching into ‘Lose My Breath, ‘Bootylicious,’ and Beyoncé’s Renaissance track ‘Energy.’

“We turned into little girls again — them teenage girls, those younger girls who just wanted to sing, dance, and travel the world. And Beyoncé was like, ‘Y’all, let’s have fun. We just gonna go out here and have fun. Whatever happens happens, but we’re gonna have fun,’” Williams recalled.

Michelle Opens Up About Trauma From The Group

But, behind that flawless reunion? Michelle was in her head heavy. Michelle spilled that she was lowkey shook leading up to the Destiny’s Child reunion moment. Why? Because, ever since she took a tumble on live TV during a 2004 performance on BET’s ‘106 & Park,’ she’s been fighting flashbacks every time she hits a stage.

“I was trying to stay focused because y’all know I still have trauma from falling on ‘106 & Park,’” she can be heard telling listeners. “I need y’all to be my therapist about that too, because every time I perform with the girls, it’s in my head: ‘Do not fall, do not fall, do not fall.’”

And, she wasn’t playing either—Michelle revealed she even recruited former DC stylist, Ty Hunter, to cut the fringe off her pants to avoid any snags.

“Ty Hunter is like, ‘Child, we got to cut these fringes off because we do not want Michelle to fall,’” she revealed. “I was like, ‘Bro, that was between me and you. You didn’t have to make no announcement.’ But yeah, that’s still in my head. Steps do frighten me now.”
