New bridge work at DFW Airport triggers major Terminal B detours

This is the first of three 90-day phases for the airport’s project, which is transitioning access into Terminals A, B and C.

DALLAS — One of the biggest airports in the world is about to get even bigger.

Construction is picking up at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport as work begins on the next major phase of the International Parkway Project. This is the first of three 90-day phases for the airport’s project, which is transitioning access into Terminals A, B and C into new right-hand exits from International Parkway.

Beginning Wednesday, August 6, crews will begin tearing down the old flyover bridge leading into Terminal B and tying in the new bridge that will replace it.

To get this work done safely, DFW Airport is rolling out some temporary detours that will affect how drivers get to Terminal B, and change the way drivers exit Terminal A. The changes will be in place for about 90 days, and the airport is putting up plenty of detour signs.

It’s all part of a bigger plan to shift every terminal entrance to the right side of the road, making things easier to navigate. Once this phase is done, drivers will start using a new, more intuitive right-hand exit into Terminal B. Similar upgrades are coming soon to Terminals A and C later this year.

Here’s What Drivers Need to Know:

Getting to Terminal B – From the South

Drivers heading north on International Parkway will need to pass all terminal exits, take the left-hand U-turn just before the North Exit Plaza, and head back south. From there, they’ll take the existing left-hand exit to Terminal B, keeping left for a temporary entrance into the terminal area.

Detour signs will be posted throughout the route to help guide the way.

Getting to Terminal B – From the North

Drivers coming from the north will continue using the left-hand exit to Terminal B, but the path into the terminal will shift slightly.

Those entering through the North Entry Plaza should follow updated lane markings and overhead signs directing traffic to the terminal.

All traffic exiting Terminal A will be directed to the North Exit. Drivers who want to head south will need to use the left-hand U-turn before reaching the North Exit Plaza.

During this time, DFW recommends travelers add 30-45 minutes to their typical travel plan to the airport to navigate detours and potential congestion. Officials say passengers should arrive at least two hours before domestic flights and three hours before international departures, regardless of their terminal.

They also recommend travelers download the DFW Airport app. It provides live parking updates, security wait times, and real-time alerts. People can also pre-book parking and customize their travel experience by setting up a MyDFW profile.
