Gov. Newsom will visit South Carolina, a key presidential primary state

Gov. Newsom will visit South Carolina, a key presidential primary state

Gov. Gavin Newsom will spend two days next week in rural South Carolina, fueling speculation that the California Democrat is laying the groundwork for a 2028 presidential run.

During the visit Tuesday and Wednesday, Newsom will make stops in eight rural counties that are among the state’s “most economically challenged and environmentally vulnerable,” the South Carolina Democratic Party said Thursday.

The chair of the state Democratic Party, Christale Spain, said in a statement that Newsom’s tour through the Pee Dee, Midlands and Upstate regions was aimed at showing rural voters in areas that had been “hollowed out by decades of Republican control” that “they aren’t forgotten.”

Newsom’s visit is also aimed at a state that will be among the first to have a Democratic Party primary in 2028. But Lindsey Cobia, a Newsom senior political advisor, denied that the governor is laying the groundwork for a presidential run.

Cobia said Newsom is “squarely focused” on helping Democrats win back the U.S. House of Representatives in 2026 and on “sounding the alarm about how rural families and communities requesting disaster relief are being left behind by the Trump administration.”

Newsom’s tour with the South Carolina Democrats, dubbed “On the Road With Governor Newsom,” will include stops in Marion, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Laurens, Pickens, Oconee, Kershaw and Florence counties. The Post and Courier reported that Newsom’s schedule would include stops in small settings such as cafes, coffee shops, community centers and churches.

The tour will take Newsom to some of the state’s reddest counties. Seven of the eight counties Newsom is scheduled to visit went for President Trump in November, including two where he garnered 75% of the vote.

The South Carolina trip is one of several overtures that Newsom has made to Southern voters in recent years. He stumped for then-President Biden in South Carolina in 2024. In 2023, he faced off in a highly publicized debate with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. And in 2022, he bought ads in Texas and Florida excoriating their governors for their stances on gun violence and abortion.

Newsom isn’t the only California Democrat visiting South Carolina this month.

U.S. Rep Ro Khanna (D-Fremont) of Silicon Valley will be holding town halls in the Palmetto State on July 19 and 20 in partnership with the advocacy organization Protect Our Care, which has been mobilizing voters in swing House districts against the planned Republican cuts to Medicaid.

Prediction: This Growth Stock Will Skyrocket in the Second Half of 2025 | The Motley Fool

Prediction: This Growth Stock Will Skyrocket in the Second Half of 2025 | The Motley Fool

Memory specialist Micron Technology (MU 0.26%) has been delivering terrific growth in recent quarters thanks to booming demand for its chips deployed in data centers, smartphones, and personal computers (PCs), which explains why the stock has clocked solid gains of 46% so far this year.

Micron released its fiscal 2025 third-quarter results (for the three months ended May 29) on June 25. A closer look at the company’s numbers and guidance suggests that its rally is here to stay in the second half of the year.

Let’s look at the reasons why investors can expect Micron stock to deliver more upside for the rest of the year as well.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has supercharged Micron Technology’s growth

Micron’s fiscal Q3 revenue shot up 37% year over year to $9.3 billion, while its adjusted earnings more than tripled to $1.91 per share. The numbers crushed Wall Street’s expectations of $1.60 per share in earnings on revenue of $8.86 billion.

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra remarked on the latest earnings conference call that its data center revenue more than doubled from the year-ago period and hit record levels last quarter. This terrific growth was driven by the healthy demand for Micron’s high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips that are integrated with AI accelerators from the likes of Nvidia and AMD.

Micron management points out that it is shipping its HBM chips in high volumes to four customers right now, who are integrating them with both graphics cards and custom AI processors. Importantly, Micron is not resting on its laurels and is focused on further improving the performance of its HBM chips. The company claims its next-generation HBM4 chips, which will succeed the HBM3E offerings, will pack 60% more performance while reducing power consumption by 20%.

The company has already provided samples of HBM4 to customers and expects to start the volume production of this product in 2026. Micron’s focus on pushing the envelope on the product development front is the right thing to do, considering that the HBM market is set to take off impressively in the long run. Bloomberg Intelligence estimates that the HBM market could generate annual revenue of $130 billion by 2030. That would be a huge jump over the $4 billion revenue this segment clocked in 2023.

Micron, therefore, still has massive room for growth in this segment, both in the short and long run. The strong momentum provided by the HBM business tells us why the company’s guidance for the current quarter points toward another solid increase in its top and bottom lines.

Micron has guided for $10.7 billion in revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter, which would be a 38% increase over the prior-year period. That would be a slight improvement over the revenue growth it reported in the previous quarter. Meanwhile, Micron’s forecast of $2.50 per share in earnings for the current quarter suggests its bottom line will more than double from the year-ago period’s reading of $1.18 per share.

The stronger growth in Micron’s earnings can be attributed to a favorable memory pricing environment. Memory manufacturers such as Micron have been increasing the prices of chips on account of solid HBM demand and supply constraints. According to TrendForce, the average price of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips increased in the range of 3% to 8% in the second quarter, owing to an increase in sales of HBM, along with an improvement in the demand for mobile and consumer-oriented DRAM chips.

Looking ahead, Micron management estimates that adoption of AI-enabled personal computers (PCs) and smartphones will contribute to the company’s growth in the coming quarters. So Micron’s catalysts are likely to get stronger as the year progresses, and that could pave the way for more upside in the second half of 2025 and beyond.

A big reason to buy the stock right now

We have already seen how rapidly Micron’s revenue and earnings are growing. However, the company’s valuation suggests that it is extremely undervalued, considering the phenomenal growth it’s been clocking.

Micron has a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 22, while the forward earnings multiple is even more attractive at 11. The company is on track to end the current fiscal year with adjusted earnings of $7.76 per share (based on its guidance of $2.50 per share for fiscal Q4 and cumulative earnings of $5.26 per share in the first three quarters of the year). That would be a huge increase over its fiscal 2024 earnings of $1.30 per share.

What’s more, analysts are expecting a 54% spike in Micron’s earnings in the next fiscal year to $12.05 per share. If the stock maintains its trailing earnings multiple of 23 after a year, its stock price could hit $265. That would be more than double current levels.

As such, Micron’s latest quarterly results should give its rally a nice shot in the arm in the second half of the year, as the market could reward its terrific growth with a richer valuation, while the projected earnings growth for the next fiscal year indicates that it could continue soaring in 2026 as well.

Big Beautiful Bill Passes

Big Beautiful Bill Passes

WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump’s signature “One Big Beautiful Bill” has officially become law, arriving at the White House for his signature just ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. The sweeping legislation represents a significant triumph for the President and Republican lawmakers, delivering on key promises from his agenda.

The comprehensive “One Big Beautiful Bill” is packed with a wide range of policy changes. Central to the legislation are the extension of President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, a substantial increase in military spending, and a significant allocation of funds for border security, including further construction of the border wall, and expanded resources for mass deportations. Additionally, the bill introduces new work requirements for Medicaid and bolsters existing requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

The bill’s path through Congress was anything but smooth, marked by intense debate and razor-thin votes. It first cleared the Senate in a marathon voting session earlier this week, requiring a tie-breaking vote from Vice President JD Vance. The House of Representatives then took up the measure, with Republican leadership navigating internal challenges to secure its final passage. Despite unified opposition from Democrats, the bill successfully made its way to the President’s desk, solidifying a major legislative achievement.

Spain's New Star, Vicky López, Announces Her Presence at Euro 2025

Spain's New Star, Vicky López, Announces Her Presence at Euro 2025

From the country that claimed the last four Ballon d’Or awards, Spain has a new star.

The 18-year-old Vicky López announced her arrival on the big stage Thursday by helping Spain to an opening 5-0 rout of Portugal at the Women’s European Championship.

It was Spain’s biggest win at the tournament, eclipsing the 4-1 win over Finland at Euro 2022.

López added the second goal just minutes after Esther González scored the first, and she proved a constant threat for the beleaguered Portuguese defense, setting up chances for Alexia Putellas and playing a decisive role before González’ second goal.

Her performance earned praise from Spain coach Montse Tomé, even if she understandably tried to reign in the burgeoning expectations.

“She’s a young player with whom we have to be patient,” Tomé said. “We’ve been working with her for a year, almost two years now. We have a lot of faith in her talent, and she’s at a point where we’ve been able to give her minutes (of playing time) now. She responded well. She did the job she had to do very well.”

Tomé said López still had plenty of time to develop. “We have to keep helping her improve. She’s very young, and we’re here to help her continue enjoying what she does,” the Spain coach said.

It’s clear that Tomé’s faith is paying off for the player.

“When I play with confidence, I play better,” López told media in the mixed zone after Thursday’s match. “When you play without confidence, it’s bad. Ultimately I’m grateful for the trust that I’m shown because I try to be myself on the field.”

López played till the 81st minute when she made way for Aitana Bonmatí, who started on the bench after being hospitalized for viral meningitis last week. Bonmatí won the last two Ballon d’Or awards. Putellas won the previous two. All three players are teammates at Barcelona.

At 18 days and 342 days old, López became Spain’s youngest player to appear at the European Championship. She’d already set the record as the country’s youngest player when she made her debut last year.

López became the youngest player to play in Spain’s top women’s league when she played for Madrid CFF aged 15. She joined Barcelona in 2022 and went on to break more records there because of her age, including becoming the club’s youngest player, male or female, to appear in the Champions League.

“My family is the foundation of my entire life, and, of course, my father,” said López, whose mother died when she was 11 years old, and who still looks to the sky after she scores.

Though Bonmatí is likely to play a greater role in the next games, López will get more opportunities to shine. She’s already thinking of the team’s goals.

“We’re hungry for more,” López said. “I think if we keep going like this, playing as a team and having that luck in front of goal, we’ll be able to play a very good European Championship.”

Up next, Spain plays Belgium on Monday (noon ET on FS1).

Dallas County judge receives public reprimand for what she says was a ‘politically motivated attack’

Dallas County judge receives public reprimand for what she says was a ‘politically motivated attack’

The Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct reprimanded Judge Amber Givens for misconduct during a 2021 Zoom hearing.

DALLAS — A Dallas County district judge has been publicly reprimanded by the Texas State Commission on Judicial Conduct for allowing her court coordinator to conduct a bond hearing while the judge’s image appeared on screen during a 2021 Zoom proceeding.

The Honorable Amber Givens, judge of the 282nd Judicial District Court in Dallas, was sanctioned after an investigation into an Aug. 3, 2021, hearing in State of Texas v. Floyd Aaron. The commission determined that Givens directed her court coordinator, Arceola Warfield, to conduct the hearing without informing anyone.

In a statement from her attorney, Givens disagreed with the commission’s conclusions and called the reprimand “a politically motivated attack.”

According to court documents, those participating saw Givens’ image on screen but heard an unidentified voice conducting the hearing. The defendant, Floyd Aaron, and his attorney, Tim Jeffrey, addressed the voice as “your honor” and “judge” without being corrected. At the hearing’s conclusion, the court reporter had to remind the “judge” to state “off the record.”

This led both Aaron and Jeffrey to believe that the voice was not Judge Givens, and instead, they inferred that it was Warfield, the document states. Because of this belief, the prosecutors in the Aaron case reported it to Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot.

According to the document, after Givens found out that the prosecutors reported her to the DA, she sent an email that said it was “an absurd allegation” and “extremely troubling.” Givens said she would file a Bar complaint against the Assistant District Attorney who made the report once she learned of their identity.

The complaint was subsequently investigated by the Texas Rangers Public Integrity Unit, the document stated.

Phone records obtained by the Texas Rangers showed Warfield had no incoming or outgoing calls on her office phone during the hearing. However, the records revealed she made one eight-second call to Givens on her cell phone that went to voicemail.

In October 2022, Givens provided testimony to the commission, the document states, that contradicted the Texas Rangers’ phone record findings during the hearing. Givens claimed she spoke during the hearing via cell phone speakerphone.

The document states that Kaufman County District Attorney Erleigh Norville Wiley declined to press criminal charges in September 2023, stating that while she believed Givens’ behavior was “unprofessional and improper,” it didn’t warrant any criminal charges.

Givens’ attorney, Russell Wilson, released the following statement on the public reprimand:

“Judge Givens disagrees with the commission’s conclusions. She has previously indicated that this was a politically motivated attack and provided statements from law enforcement that contradicted the commissions conclusions.

Judge Givens does not plan any further comment on this issue.”

Court documents show the commission also cited Givens for poor judicial temperament. More than 100 recusal motions were filed against her in 2022 by both prosecutors and defense attorneys, accusing her of “lacking impartiality, making unfair rulings, treating lawyers with disrespect, and having a ‘retaliatory nature.'”

The public reprimand, issued June 23, 2025, found that Givens violated several sections of the Texas Code of Judicial Conduct by committing the following acts:

  • Directing her court coordinator to conduct the Zoom hearing in the Aaron case
  • Failing to treat attorneys Jaime Young, Tom Cox, Rebekah Dall’Asen and Ron Goranson with dignity in her court
  • Performing judicial duties with bias or prejudice
  • Failing to comply with and maintain professional competence in the law
  • Failing to treat Presiding Judge Wheless with dignity

Here Are Black Sabbath & Ozzy Osbourne’s Biggest Hit Albums on the Billboard 200 Chart

Here Are Black Sabbath & Ozzy Osbourne’s Biggest Hit Albums on the Billboard 200 Chart

Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne (long the band’s famed frontman) have a heavy (metal) legacy of hit albums on the Billboard 200 chart, dating to when the group notched its first chart entry with its self-titled debut in 1970. Through the years, the band, and Osbourne with solo projects, has rocked the chart with a series of high-charting albums.

The band logged a series of top 40-charting efforts over the decades, first reaching the top 10 in 1971 with Master of Reality, which climbed to No. 8. The group last hit the chart with the reunion project 13, released in 2013, which marked the group’s second top 10, and first No. 1.

Osbourne himself as a soloist has claimed nine top 10-charting sets on the Billboard 200, including at least one in every decade from the 1980s through the 2020s. He most recently hit the top 10 with the No. 3-peaking Patient Number 9 in 2022. Along the way, Osbourne also claimed a pair of top 10 charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100, with his Lita Ford duet “Close My Eyes Forever” (No. 8 in 1989) and his featured turn, alongside Travis Scott, on Post Malone’s “Take What You Want” (No. 8 in 2019).

Below is a combined top 10 ranking of both Black Sabbath and Osbourne’s biggest albums on the Billboard 200 chart. The ranking is based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard 200 through the July 5, 2025, chart. Titles are ranked on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 200 earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted to account for different chart turnover rates over various periods.
