Juror From Diddy Trial Reportedly Reacts To Backlash For The Mixed Verdict

On Thursday, July 3, ABC News published a report, asserting that the outlet spoke with a juror from the Diddy trial. Furthermore, the juror reportedly asked to remain unnamed as they voiced concerns about “potential online abuse and cyber harassment.” In addition, they told the outlet that opinions that “celebrity influence” played a role in Diddy’s mixed verdict are “highly insulting and belittling to the jury and the deliberation process.”

“We spent over two days deliberating. Our decision was based solely on the evidence presented and how the law is stated,” they told the outlet. “We would have treated any defendant in the same manner regardless of who they are. I have nothing else to say.”

More Details On The Mixed Verdict In The 55-Year-Old’s Trial

As The Shade Room previously reported, after a more than month-long trial, Diddy was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution charges on Wednesday, July 2. However, although the 55-year-old was found guilty on those charges, he was found not guilty on multiple counts of sex trafficking. Additionally, he was found guilty on a charge of racketeering.

What Happens Next In The Diddy Trial? How Has He Reacted?

In the hours that followed, the 55-year-old’s defense team reportedly submitted a $1 million bond proposal, per The Shade Room. Furthermore, the proposal was signed by Diddy, his mother, Janice Combs, his sister, and Sarah Chapman, the mother of his oldest daughter.

The proposal offered that Diddy’s travel would be restricted. Specifically, he would only travel to California, Florida, New York, New Jersey, and Florida. Furthermore, this would largely be to access his residences and meet with his lawyers. Lastly, Diddy offered to submit his passport, submit to drug testing, and other standard supervision conditions.

As The Shade Room previously reported, the 55-year-old’s proposal was largely protested by the lawyer of his ex-girlfriend and alleged abuse victim, Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. In addition, the judge presiding over his case reportedly received letters from others expressing concern over his potential release.

Ultimately, on Wednesday, July 2, Diddy’s bond proposal was denied. As The Shade Room previously reported, the judge expressed concern over Diddy’s “violent and illegal conduct.”

“This highlights a disregard for the rule of law and a propensity of violence,” the judge told the court.

In reaction, the 55-year-old reportedly appeared “deflated” at the judge’s decision. Now, he will reportedly await his sentencing, tentatively scheduled for October 3, from behind bars at Metropolitan Detention Center.

Suspect shot by Cedar Hill officer after pursuit into Dallas, police say

The incident began as a chase and ended at the intersection of Town Creek Drive and Glen Oaks Boulevard in Dallas, sources say.

DALLAS — A police pursuit that began in Cedar Hill Thursday afternoon ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting in Dallas, authorities confirmed.

According to a news release from the Cedar Hill Police Department, officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 2 p.m. in the 700 block of Highway 67. The driver, believed to be impaired, fled the scene, leading officers on a pursuit that crossed into the City of Dallas, police said.

The chase ended about 16 minutes later near the intersection of Town Creek Drive and Glen Oaks Boulevard. Cedar Hill police said that’s when the man exited the vehicle and ran towards a wooded area, where a Cedar Hill police officer discharged his firearm, striking the man.

Footage from the WFAA chopper captured several police cars, a damaged U-Haul truck, and an unmarked black pickup truck parked in the middle of a grassy area.

Cedar Hill PD said they rendered medical aid and carried the man to a nearby roadway to meet first responders. Despite those efforts, the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident, CHPD said.

Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect, who is described as a white male.

The Cedar Hill officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The Dallas Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit, with oversight from the Dallas County Public Integrity Division, is leading the investigation into the shooting.

This is a developing story. WFAA will provide updates as soon as they become available.

Alabama sets nitrogen execution for man convicted of killing store clerk during 1997 robbery

Alabama sets nitrogen execution for man convicted of killing store clerk during 1997 robbery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama has scheduled a September execution by nitrogen gas for a man convicted of killing a convenience store clerk during a 1997 robbery.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey set a Sept. 25 execution date for Geoffrey Todd West. West, now 49, is on the death row for killing Margaret Parrish Berry.

Prosecutors said West drove to Harold’s Chevron in Attalla with plans to rob the store where he once worked. Berry, 33, was shot in the back of the head while lying on the floor behind the counter, prosecutors said.

Court records state that $250 was taken from a cookie can that held the store’s money.

A jury convicted West of capital murder and voted 10-2 to recommend a death sentence. A judge adopted the jury’s recommendation and sentenced West to death.

Etowah County Circuit Judge William Cardwell during the 1999 sentencing said it was difficult to order the execution of a young man but said the shooting death was “clearly deliberate and intentional, carried out execution style.”

Prosecutors also charged West’s girlfriend with the slaying. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.

Alabama last year became the first state to carry out an execution with nitrogen gas, a method that involves pumping nitrogen through a face mask and depriving the inmate of oxygen.

The method has now been used in six executions — five in Alabama and one in Louisiana. Alabama has scheduled another nitrogen execution in August.

West was one of several Alabama inmates who selected nitrogen as their preferred execution method after state lawmakers authorized the method. He made the selection before Alabama developed procedures for the method.

Jim Jones Says He Didn’t Realize How Many People Loved Nas Until Viral Comparison: ‘I’m Watching People Go Absolutely Batsh– Crazy’

Jim Jones Says He Didn’t Realize How Many People Loved Nas Until Viral Comparison: ‘I’m Watching People Go Absolutely Batsh– Crazy’

Jim Jones sat down with Angie Martinez for her IRL podcast recently and talked about the debate that’s had a stranglehold on rap social media.

The legendary journalist and radio host said that the day after she booked Jim for an episode, the Nas debate went viral and asked if he’s been trolling people a bit with some of his quotes surrounding the situation.

“I mean you’re definitely correct,” he said with a smile before explaining how the conversation started in the first place. “But I didn’t start it. There was a young gentleman that they asked a question to and his clip went viral. He was on a podcast and they asked him who’s more relevant: Jim Jones or Nas? That went super viral and that led to all these people with platforms to ask that question.”

See latest videos, charts and news

Adding that he was only defending himself after being asked a question, he then brought up his earlier back-and-forth with fellow Diplomat Cam’ron earlier this year. “Even from the beginning of the year when I did the Justin [Laboy] interview — I didn’t start it,” Jones said. “They asked me how I felt about what was said about me from another platform from some other people. I’m not a troublemaker, but I like trouble if that’s the case. I’m built for it. My whole type of thing has been that engagement, and here we are.”

Jones then talked about how easy it is to go viral with today’s social media landscape and how something like that can benefit an artist in the digital age. “I gave people a prerequisite,” he told Martinez. “I know how to go viral, this is easy. We’re in a community where everything goes viral… and turns into a revenue stream. I’m on everybody’s Explore page, I’m at the top of this page, the top of that page. You like me, don’t like me, know who I was… one click away from making me some money. I also have a record label, I have artists, I have music out. It makes it that much easier to know who Jim Jones is. I’m worried about myself when I make these moves. I know how to turn my negatives into a positive.”

The kicker, though? He underestimated how many people have Nas at the top of their favorite rapper list.

“Man, I didn’t know how many people loved Nas, though,” he said before making himself and Angie burst into laughter. “I’m watching people go absolutely batsh– crazy, like goddamn. But that’s hip-hop. There’s people that I adored as a fan too that I’ll probably go batsh– crazy for in the same situation, I love it, that’s what the game was built on. Let’s not make no mistake, I put in a lot of work and I did a lot of incredible things that a lot of people have not gotten to do in this industry.”

A few weeks back, a clip of a young 22-year-old from New Jersey went viral because he said the Harlem rapper was more relevant to him than Nas. This opinion predictably got people up in arms and Jones’ subsequent media run after continued to fan the flames. Jones defended himself on Fat Joe and Jadakiss’ podcast and told the people to pull up the Billboard stats and he told the BagFuel podcast that he basically did Nas a favor by talking about him so much. “What I did for Nas probably never been done for him in his life. He’s never been that viral at all. Ever,” he said. “Ever. He’s never been talked about like this ever in his life.”

White knuckles and ‘massive unknowns’ ahead of Trump’s July 9th tariff deadline

White knuckles and ‘massive unknowns’ ahead of Trump’s July 9th tariff deadline

The countdown to the 90-day freeze on sweeping Liberation Day tariffs expires next week, and President Donald Trump’s administration is a far cry from its “90 deals in 90 days” goal.

Trump’s self-imposed July 9 deadline follows his sweeping reciprocal tariffs address in April, which sparked global panic and caused the S&P to shed $5 trillion in value in about two days. As next week’s deadline approaches, the Trump administration has announced new trade agreements with countries including China, the U.K., Vietnam and Indonesia—but details about these agreements are scant, and no word of further deals being made yet has left U.S. consumers and investors with little clarity.

Investors have grown accustomed to the “TACO,” or Trump Always Chickens Out trade, where markets fall when Trump announces steep tariffs on imports and then jump back up when he pauses them. But experts say this pattern can’t last forever.

“Time’s ticking to get deal frameworks in place,” Wedbush Securities Senior Equity Research Analyst Dan Ives told Fortune. “Even though the market has shrugged it off, for businesses that operate every day, there’s massive unknowns and a lot of white knuckles. It’s a key week and a key few months ahead [for] tariffs.”

Economists already expect current tariff rates to increase costs on consumer goods this summer—these prices could increase further after July 9. Pantheon Macroeconomics economists wrote in a note on Thursday that there is an “imminent risk” of a temporary jump in tariffs rates across the board as the deadline nears. If imposed, reciprocal rates could boost consumer prices from tariffs to 1.5% from 1% under the current tariff rates, they wrote.

But experts are skeptical that Trump will maintain any reciprocal rates imposed next week, as he’s lowered rates in the past as talks with trade partners have continued. Trump and China formalized a rare earth deal in June, after Trump briefly charged 125% duties on Chinese imports in April.

“In the end, however, we expect any ratcheting-up of the tariffs to be short-lived. Other countries will respond forcefully; they all saw Mr. Trump fold to pressure from China in May,” the Pantheon economists wrote. “The weaker economic backdrop compared to April and the further decline in the president’s approval rating since then also suggest an eventual climbdown is likely.”

Some experts even anticipate little change as the deadline approaches, as current pacts with major trade partners still need to be refined.

“So far we have a tiny number of agreements which are themselves not very detailed,” UBS Chief Economist Paul Donovan told Fortune in an email Thursday. “The Chinese ‘agreement’ is simply a partial de-escalation of an unsustainable deal. The UK ‘agreement’ is partially implemented with plenty of disagreement on the outstanding details. The deadline is likely to serve as a point from which further extensions or continuation of negotiations will be announced.”

Trump’s credibility in question

Markets have grown accustomed to Trump walking back on extreme tariffs threats. Now, experts say Trump’s next moves will inform whether countries in negotiations with the U.S. have a similar mentality.

“[Trump] certainly doesn’t want to be accused of chickening out because it would hurt his credibility in any future negotiations,” Thierry Wizman, Macquarie Group financial markets economist, told Fortune. “The focus is always on showing that he can in fact cut you off.”

Wizman does expect some deals to be announced, though, which he says will be touted by the administration.

“Trump can always come out and say, ‘We have a deal,’ but it will be a deal that’s very narrow in scope. So they’ll segregate the things that they have agreed on and say that’s a deal like with China,” Wizman said. “There’s a whole bunch of ways this can go right, and it’s also a whole bunch of ways it can be spun.”

Experts say to expect continued talks past July 9 with many major trading partners like the EU.

“The deadline is probably not going to change very much—mostly the status quo will be retained while negotiations continue with more or less vigour depending on the importance of the bilateral relationship,” UBS’ Donovan wrote, “Uncertainty about the ultimate outcome will persist. If there is any attempt to escalate, investors are likely to shrug their shoulders and wait for U.S. President Trump to retreat.”

Trade with China

China accounts for about 37.6% of U.S. imports this year, according to supply chain intelligence platform project44. This is a 0.1% increase from 2024.

Still, Wizman says whatever trade agreements to come in the near future may look to lock out China from moving capital in and out of other countries’ supply chains. He says this may be a focus in trade agreements with countries like Japan, South Korea and the EU.

“If you can get these countries to depend on bilateral trade with the U.S. and depend less on China, then you basically bolt these countries into the U.S. orbit permanently,” Wizman said.
