MANILA, Philippines — Storm surges triggered by Tropical Depression Crising are possible in four provinces in Northern Luzon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Crising was last spotted 460 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. It was moving northwestward at 15 km per hour, packing winds of up to 55 kph and gusts of up to 70 kph.

In its Thursday night bulletin, Pagasa warned of storm surges with the following height in these areas:

1.0 to 2.0 meters

Cagayan  – Abulug, Aparri, Baggao, Ballesteros, Buguey, Calayan, Claveria, Gattaran, Gonzaga, Lal-lo, Pamplona, Peñablanca, Sanchez-Mira, Santa Ana, Santa Praxedes, Santa Teresita

Ilocos Norte – Bacarra, Badoc, Bangui, Burgos, Currimao, Laoag City, Pagudpud, Paoay, Pasuquin)

Ilocos Sur – Cabugao, Caoayan, City of Candon, City of Vigan, Magsingal, Narvacan, San Esteban, San Juan, San Vicente, Santa, Santa Catalina, Santa Cruz, Santa Lucia, Santa Maria, Santiago, Santo Domingo, Sinait, Tagudin

Isabela – Dinapigue, Divilacan, Maconacon, Palanan

“A minimal to moderate risk of storm surge may occur in the next 48 hours. However, residents along the coast are advised to take extra precautions due to high waves,” Pagasa said.

The state weather agency projected Crising to intensify into a tropical storm early Friday morning before making landfall in either mainland Cagayan or Babuyan Islands. /gsg
