On the first day of August this year, it’s especially great to be a pop music fan.
That’s because Chappell Roan, Demi Lovato and more all dropped new projects to kick off this month. Starting with a certain Missouri native who skyrocketed to pop superstardom in 2024, Roan released her long-awaited single “The Subway” after premiering it at Gov Ball last year. Accompanied by a campy music video set in New York City, the track follows March’s “The Giver” and is expected to appear on the singer’s highly anticipated sophomore album, which she’s still working on.
Lovato, on the other hand, has returned to pop after years of devoting herself to rock music, last dropping an album in 2022 with the head-banging Holy Fvck. After once holding a “funeral” for their pop music, the former Disney star is now re-embracing the mainstream with “Fast,” an EDM-infused dance track that might just be in competition for song of the summer status.
Plus, Reneé Rapp at last followed up 2023’s Snow Angel with sophomore effort Bite Me, while Hayley Williams released an album’s worth of songs — all uploaded as individual singles — days after posting them to her website with zero fanfare or explanation. Mariah the Scientist also teamed up with Kali Uchis for new duet “Is It a Crime,” and both Metro Boomin and $uicideboy$ unleashed new LPs.
