CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Boat trips from five ports in this province were canceled Saturday due to rough sea conditions caused by Tropical Storm Crising (international name: Wipha), which continued to bring rain to parts of Luzon and the Visayas even after exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility before noon.

In an advisory, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said fast craft trips between Calapan Port and Batangas City Port were canceled as of 11 a.m. Roll-on, roll-off vessels, however, were allowed to travel.

Trips at Balatero Port in Puerto Galera bound for Batangas, and vice versa, were also canceled. Voyages of boats to and from Pinamalayan Port were suspended as well. In the southern towns of Roxas and Bulalacao, fast craft ferry operations were likewise halted, the PDRRMO said.

As of Saturday, all roads and bridges in the province remained passable, and all major river systems were at normal levels with no reports of flooding, according to the PDRRMO.

However, power interruptions were reported in Puerto Galera, Pinamalayan and Mansalay. A brief outage was also reported in a village in Calapan City due to clearing operations by the Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative in Barangay Lalud.

Vinscent Gahol, head of the PDRRMO, said the province was under “white alert,” or routine operation status, but residents were advised to monitor regular advisories.

All PDRRMO personnel were placed on duty to staff monitoring stations and coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management councils, he added.
